Story

The inaugural Lonnie Smith Memorial at 81 Speedway on May 31, 2025, brought together the Hayden Ross Motorsports Foundation Sooner Late Model Series and the United Rebel Late Model Series for a co-sanctioned event that honored the legacy of Kansas racing legend Lonnie Smith.Fans were treated to a thrilling night of topless late model racing, with over $2,300 in lap money added to the A-feature purse .

Kyle Berck, rebounding from a narrow defeat the previous night at Humboldt, dominated the feature by leading all 25 laps to secure a $4,000 payday . Joseph Gorby finished second, followed by Josh Leonard in third and Dusty Leonard in fourth.

Delbert "The Iceman" Smith, driving the #H147 car, delivered a strong performance by finishing fifth, marking his second consecutive top-five finish of the weekend . Dan "SoBe" Smith, in the #92s machine, started at the tail of the field after battle electrical issues. Earning the "Hard Charger" after passing 14 cars in route to a 7th place finish. Earning a FREE Hoosier Racing tire provided by Hoosier Tire Great Plains and a Customized pit mat from Smith Racing Supply. Both will are greatly appreciated.

These results have propelled Delbert Smith to the top of the Sooner Late Model Series points standings, with Dan Smith closely trailing in second place .
